One thing I've noticed in J.R.R Tolkien's LOTR and the Hobbit is that he doesn't choose the people that are most equipped for such a task to be the main character . Instead he chooses those that are the least ready, willing and capable. But why? why choose a hobbit, which is small and almost pacifistic, rather then a young elf or a tough dwarf. I think that the author chose hobbits for the books to show us that anybody can rise to the occasion, ecspecially those who have the will. Mr. Tolkien emphazizes that by telling the story of the hobbits's journey. Everything In Middle Earth is not built for a hobbit, they are not made for battle and they all live in a place called the Shire, where no one comes or leaves where no outside news or trouble reaches them and they live carefree. To go from that to having millions of lives resting on your shoulders, the perciveriance you need to have is ridiculous.
