Blogpost 26: The Heroes

I am at a part where Calder has gone through a character arc. He is trying to be a better leader like his father was, Calder is really starting to become one of my favorite characters,but i'm not getting too used to the new Calder. I've read enough of this series to know that this is probably not going to last, in fact, he'll probably end up a worse person at the end of the book than he was in the beggining of the book. The characters that were annoying in the beggining are less annoying now, except for this character named Gorst who was depresing in the begginning and is still depressing if not more. He has to go through a character arc sooner or later or his pov is pointless. 

Blogpost 25: The Heroes

    There are some parts of how the way this book is told that really annoys me, like when there is a a character arc and then all of a sudden the character returns to the way he was in the beginning. This kind of makes you feel like you have been reading for nothing and it gets really annoying. The cool things that the author does is that he writes a situation, and plays it up like its something to cheer about, and then he snaps it back to realism, for example, This character Beck is played up like he wants to fight and gain a reputation, when he got to his first battle, he peed himself, and ran away to a nearby house and hid in the closest. Wow.

blogpost 24: The Heroes

In the book The Heroes, which is a spin off of a series called The First Law Trilogy. It takes place directly after the events of the first spin off  Best Served Cold. The book is told by many point of view, but really I only like a few. One is a soldier in the Union army, he is funny, and he's pretty much know how to be a successful soldier, which is try to avoid as  much fighting as you possibly can. There is Calder, who is hilarious. He reminds me of Tyrion Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire. he is so much like Tyrion Lannister that the only thing about him thats different is his height. Then there is Beck, who is an interesting character because he wants to make a name for himself. One of the best things about this entire franchise of books is the way characters deal with moral situations and there standpoint on doing the right thing or what even is the right thing. Beck is niave because he believes in stories and songs and doesn't relize what a dark buisness it is. I'm interested to see how he will react to it.

In the book, Catching Fire Katnis is in deep trouble with the Capital. Even though she tried to play up the star crossed lovers thing it still wasn't good enough, in fact, its actual just fueled people's hope for rebellion, so much in fact that District 8 started rioting and people were being excecuted in District 11. To Katniss, it seems like the only option is to run away with her family into the woods. I think that President Snow didn't really expect Katniss to succeed in tricking people into not uprising, it was just a secondary plan,i don't know what his real plan is but I think he's not going to be able to kill Katniss or Peeta or Haymitch and so on. But he can kill Gale.

Blogpost 20: A Feast for Crows

I'm now reading the fourth book in A Song of Ice and Fire series. In this book the thing that really stood out about this book compared to the other books is that the perspectives are mostly on the bad guy's side. Most of the Starks, which are the good guys, are dead and those that are still living are forced into hiding. The really cool thing though is that the book somehow makes me connect with these characters as much as I connected with the Starks, except for Cersei, if nothing, her percpective made me hate her more. One example of a percpective that suprised me was a character named Jaime. In the first to books I hated this guy, He commits incest with his sister, he pushed a child out a window of a tower, and he was constantly trying to kill the people I liked. But somewhere in the the third book and in the fourth book he starts to regret the things that he did and tries to atone for the one that he can, in a way he starting to become a lot like Tyrion, which is his little, much more relatable, funnier brother.

Blogpost 19: A Storm of Swords

  When I read A Storm of Swords, it still amazes me how all the books in A Song of Ice and Fire series feels more like one book instead of an entire series. Everything in the world of the book is the same as the way was left in the end of the last book.The character's don't change just because the author feels like, but because the world forces them to. Since there is so much lore and plot development and twists, it great to see that the author is able to keep it all contained and still be able to add new twists and development as well.

Blogpost 18: A Storm of Swords

      I'm now reading the third book In the Song of Ice and Fire series. Things have kind of gone to hell now in the book. Everyone at war with one another and you can't walk down the street without a weapon and mercanaries walk around being called knights. In the first book when the war had started I was rooting for the Starks to win. I felt they were stuck between a rock and a hard place and had no choice but to go to war, but now I have forgotten why. It's not that I've lost interest, it that I don't to see all these characters die just for some stupid crown, It sucks when characters that don't have anything to do with the war suffer more than the person who are fighting the war. The cool thing about this book was that.

Blogpost 17: A Clash of Kings

SPOILERS:
I'm now reading Clash of Kings which is the second book in the series of A Song of Ice and Fire. In this book the Starks are at war with the Lannisters and The Baratheons have split up  and are both want the Iron Throne. Robb Stark is now being named King of the North and wishes to become an Independant country and is demand his sisters back from Kings Landing. My favorite character so far is Arya because she is easily the most sympehtetic character in the  book, her and her sister Sansa who is stuck in Kings Landing being abused by King joffrey. ( Sorry about the length, I had finished  a bigger one earlier but the stupid computer decided not to save or publish it, so after raging for awhile I was able to sit down and write something.) 

Blogpost 16 : A Game of Thrones

   In the book, there are these two houses that are about to go to war, The Starks and the Lannisters. As I was reading  I realized that much bad stuff happens to the good guys (the Starks) versus how cunning the bad guys are. As I read I can't help but think that the Starks have just showed up in the middle of a game of poker to play and don't realize that the Lannisters have bluffed everyone else ( the other houses) into thinking what they want them to think, and the Starks figure it out, but it's too late, the game has already been won. There is a line in the in the TV show Game of Thrones( which is based on the based on the book) said by Cersei Lannister  To Ned Stark, " When you play the game of thrones, you either win or die"

Blogpost 15: A Game of Thrones

I have started reading A Song of Ice and Fire series, starting with the first book. This book is so good it had me hooked the first page in. The prologue starts off with a heavy medieval fantasy feel, what with the strange creatures simply called, The Others. But after the prologue, it doesn't mention The Others again. It leaves this since of mystery that something is coming. After the prologue, you get to see all the political issues and family problems of the House of Stark. There are so many percpectives in this book, so many characters are introduced. There is so much political backstory that explaining each character would be the entire blogpost. But the ones that I am most interest are the Starks. In the Stark family there is Bran, the seven year old kid who enjoys climbing, Arrya, seven or eight, I forgot, she isn't really much of a girl much less a princess. She is very tomboy and since this is a very medieval time period, this is not socially acceptable, there's  Sarca who is eleven, she on the other hand is very girly and isn't much of a Stark, there's Robb who is fourteen and is the heir to his father, there is Lady Catelyn Stark who is the wife of Lord Eddard Stark who is the Lord of Winterfell and all of the North or "Ned" Stark as people close to him call him . Then there is Jon Snow, the bastard child of Ned Stark and is my favorite character of all the Starks because he is the one I feel the most sympathetic to. He is a victim of his own birth and is hated by Lady Stark, the only mother like figure in his life. She even tells him, " I wish you were dead".

Blogpost 14: Dune

 It seems like the Atriedes's aren't very relatable to. All the characters you root for are are very tamed and don't really have much of my sympathy. Like I said in one of my other blog posts, If I feel like a certain don't need my sympathy and is doing okay way before I came along then I'm not gonna care that much unless the characters are interesting and different. Except for characters like Halleck and Hawat who are both super badass though you don't see them much. The main character Paul still has this shroud of mystery to him that really should have been taken off by now. I heard this book starts of a bit slow but at the same time I heard that this was one of the best science fiction books ever made so I guess I may have too high of expectations for this book. My favorite character that isn't really spoken much about in depth is without a doubt Hawat. He seems like a mixture of Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars and Ned Stark from Game of Thrones.

blogpost #13: Dune

As I continue reading I find myself wanting to know more about The Duke Leto. the book doesn't show you much in his percpective so far but everyone seems to be mad at him for his political descisions and playing right into the Harkkenons's hands. But it's wierd becuase when you do get his percpective, he knows exactly what he's doing and he seems to mean well. It's like when people this guy is an awful person, and when you finally meet them, they aren't as bad as people make them out to be.  The Duke seems like he knows what he's doing, but the cool thing is that you never really know what he is thinking or what his  intentions are with the planet Arrakis, but you know just enough about his connection with his son and the bi-polar like relationship with his Lady to see that he's not a bad guy. His son does'nt think he's a bad guy either . What little contact he has with father is almost a loving serious tone. Leto tries to teach Paul about the responsibilities of being heir. there's a feeling of impending doom as I read more of the book. I think that something bad is going to happen to the Atriedes's that's going to cripple their House and there going to have to confront the Harkonnenons and the Imperial House.

blogpost #12: Dune

  SPOILERS

  Dune is a sci fi book  which i would describe as Star Wars meets Game of Thrones. The main character is Paul, heir to the House (royal family) Atriedes. His whole life he has lived on Caladan, but something I've noticed is that  he never had any friends or had any contact with anybody besides his family, teachers and trainers. Now, after years of losing the support of the planet, the people of Caladan don't want them there anymore, So the Emperor( who basically controls all the Houses) decided to give the Atreides's the planet Arrakis or Dune. Dune is a HORRIBLE planet. Two big suns, constant sandstorms, almost no water, I mean there is so little water that the people living on the planet haave to wear these moisture capturing suit becuase they cannot afford to shed a tear or they will die. This planet would be seriously undesirable if it didn't have an overflowing amount of the galaxies most important resource. an addictive spice called melange. As far as I know the only purpose of melange is to feed people's addiction.

Review of Daniel's Post Scorpia

 everyone knows why I'm reviewing someone else's post.In Daniel's post, he writes very fluently, it doesn't feel chopped up or anything like that. It's short but to the point and it doesn't drag on and on.Also, its not a retelling of the story either, though their is retelling in the story, it isn't redundant.alot of the other blogposts were five paragraphs long and mostly description and retelling or a paragraph long and all description and retelling.
 Its also cool how he writes about how the character was before an event and how he was after the event. The blog is mostly focused around the character which i like. it shows how the character is developing. Its also really cool how the blog is summarized. It doesn't feel like it just suddennly ends. The end sentence is actually an ending to a post. Its ended with his his overall opinion on what has happened to the character.
 Its not the perfect blog post,but thats why i think its well done. It's very well pieced together and easy to understand. It doesn't feel repetitive or dull. It's short but makes great points as it goes along. His spelling and punctuation seems tobe good. I don't think that the shortness of the post hurts it, I think it help it in a way. It keeps it from being really disjointed in some sections and too descriptive as you read along.
